Presque Isle Park Clean-Up

We all love to drive and visit Presque Isle Park for its scenery, animals and location. With the release of restrictions from Covid-19, the increase in traffic makes keeping Presque Isle Park clean extremely difficult.

Many times, we don’t stop to recognize the impact our footprints make on the island. Moosewood Nature Center is partnering with the City of Marquette in its preservation efforts.

As part of that ongoing effort to preserve Presque Isle Park, Moosewood is asking for volunteers of all ages to join in our educational effort to keep it clean. It’s not all work to keep it clean though. Our goal is to educate upcoming generations about this environment. This includes what negatively impacts it (trash and debris). Combine that with what Presque Isle Park has to offer and what we can do for it, we can take the time to keep it around for others to enjoy.

With this project we are extending the opportunity for all gender scout groups to take part as a means of achieving community service awards. We’re also extending the opportunity to any other group(s) that need or want community service involvement.

With the current Covid-19 virus still affecting us, we do require social distancing. We also highly recommend masks especially for those who are vulnerable yet still want to help.

Wearing appropriate walking shoes or boots and gloves is recommended. We do not have a supply of Covid-19 appropriate masks available for the public at this time.

Our current schedule for cleanups are: Saturdays, June 13 and 27, July 5 (Sunday) and 18, and August 8 and 22. Participants will meet at MooseWood Nature Center at 3:00 pm.

Underwater cleanups will be on the above dates at 10:00 am. We will have divers on hand for those interested in the profession to see equipment and ask questions. If it rains the dive will be cancelled.

Cash donations are being accepted if you want to help, but can not participate. Your donations will be used to provide beverages, snacks, garbage bags, and latex free gloves during the clean-up dates. These listed items can also be purchased and donated.

Donations can be made to: MooseWood Nature Center, P.O. Box 773, Marquette, MI 49855. The nature center hopes to open soon but until than, purchased items can be dropped off by appointment by emailing

Thank you for your contribution to the nature center and the community.
