Karen Brzys, also known as the “Agate Lady” is the author of “Agates: Inside Out” and “How to Find Agates” and operates the Gitche Gumee Agate and History Museum in Grand Marais, Michigan.

“While they can be purchased at rock and gem shops, it’s much more rewarding to find agates on your own,” says Brzys.

Karen will share what an agate is and that unlike other gemstones each agate is unique. Agate formation and a geological history of the Upper Peninsula will also be presented.  If you are a new rock hound or a seasoned hunter, she will be sharing a new method of finding our Lake Superior agates. Brzys will also have her books for sale before and after the program and will help with agate identification (three per person please).

A suggested donation of $5 per adult and $10 per family are welcome to thank our presenter for her time and travel costs. With your donation you can enter a free drawing to win your very own copy of “Agates: Inside Out” and “How to Find Agates” to add to your library and a Lake Superior agate.
