Hands-On Owl Pellet Dissection (with a tech twist)

Saturday, July 20th at 2:00pm at MooseWood Nature Center

Join Erik, the Marquette Naturalist, who will lead attendees of all ages in an owl pellet dissection. There will be a limited number of owl pellets available at no cost to attendees.

An owl’s body can’t digest fur, bones, or teeth, so these pieces are later regurgitated, or coughed up, as small oval objects known as owl pellets, just like cats cough up hairballs! Skulls, bones, and furs found in an owl pellet can provide good hints to help identify what an owl has eaten. Dissect a pellet and discover what one of our favorite, fantastic bird species eats for dinner.

Suggested age range: Tweens to adults, but all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. To support the nature center, suggested donations are $5/child or $10/family. Registration email: moosewoodnc@gmail.com. Registration is not required, but appreciated.
